I had some trouble with this; I couldn't figure out how ponies could hold a video game controller. And then, for some reason, people at Smack Jeeves started posting images of old/obscure video game consoles, which pointed me in the right direction. So, they're playing some kind of Atari/SNES hybrid. Or something. It's old and belonged to Applejack and Big Macintosh when they were young.
